Caltrans crews will close the Camino De La Plaza ‘Last U.S. Exit’ off-ramp at southbound Interstate 5 in San Ysidro on Sunday, Aug. 17, at 9 p.m. until Monday, Aug. 18, at 6 a.m. for pipe installation as part of infrastructure improvements.
Signs will be posted ahead of the closure to alert motorists. Southbound I-5 drivers can exit at Via De San Ysidro Boulevard, turn right, then left onto Calle Primera, and continue toward Camino De La Plaza via Willow Road.
Important reminder: there is no exit once past Camino De La Plaza. Motorists who do not exit promptly will be directed into Mexico.
The work will be performed at night under temporary freeway lane closures for crew and public safety. Nearby residents and businesses may experience increased traffic on the detour route, construction noise, lights, and OSHA-required vehicle back-up alarms. Crews will work to minimize impacts.
