There’s a new attraction at Seaforth Boat Rental in Coronado that’s receiving a lot of head-turning attention from both sea-faring weekend captains and luxury car wannabe owners.

Imagine riding through the surf in San Diego Bay or Mission Bay in a Lamborghini.

Taylor Pena did, and that’s how LamBoats were created.

“It is just like a sports car,” said Pena, chief executive officer and founder of LamBoats of San Diego

“The boat is just like a luxury sports car that seats two people with race car bucket seats, a sport steering wheel, foot pedals for throttle, and even a push button to start.

“When I take it out, I’m accelerating faster than anyone else on the water, spinning donuts and having the time of my life,” Pena said. “Plus, I notice that everyone is taking photos and videos — I feel like a celebrity.”

The LamBoats concept was born following a few margaritas over lunch with a friend who ran a boat rental business in Florida.

“I wanted to bring something new to the West Coast,” Pena said. “How can I be more than just a pontoon, speedboat, or sailboat rental?” asked Pena. “Coming from a tech background, I know that to be successful, one must be innovative and have a product that separates you from the competition, and I wanted to bring something [Southern California] has never seen.

“My friend in Florida told me that while he was in Dubai, he saw some boats that looked like sports cars. Well, I love Lamborghinis and decided to figure out a Lamborghini shell, and that’s what I’ve been doing for the last six months,” Pena said.

Before his Lamboats could hit the water, Pena had to find an established boat rental company to handle that end of the deal. For that final detail, he turned to San Diego’s leader in boat rentals, Seaforth Boat Rentals.

The cost to skipper a LamBoat is $300 for one hour, $400 for 90 minutes, and $500 for two hours. To reserve a LamBoat, visit lamboats.com.
