Hooray for Pandas!

The San Diego Zoo will celebrate National Panda Day Sunday, and the first 2,000 kids (ages 11 and under) who visit Denny Sanford Panda Ridge will receive a pair of panda ears to get into the spirit.

There also will be a special photo opportunity for guests to capture family memories.

The zoo’s giant panda pair, Xin Bao and Yun Chuan, were welcomed in their all-new habitat, Denny Sanford Panda Ridge, in August. Since then, thousands of guests have visited the first pandas to enter the United States in 21 years.

Panda Ridge takes inspiration from the lush landscapes in and around giant pandas’ native habitats in the Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi provinces in China. It features shade trees for climbing, a diverse array of plants and rolling hillsides that allow Yun Chuan and Xin Bao to navigate and explore vertically.
