San Diego residents can expect a warm start to the new year, with temperatures rising in valleys and foothills and spreading across most areas by Thursday, reaching the 80s in some valleys.
Morning low clouds and dense fog will be confined to the immediate coastline early Wednesday, with similar conditions expected Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service.
High temperatures Wednesday are expected to reach 63 to 67 near the coast, 69 to 72 inland, 71 to 74 in the western valleys, 73 to 78 near the foothills, 65 to 74 in the mountains and 72 to 75 in the deserts.
The warming trend will taper off by Friday and Saturday, as onshore flow returns, bringing cooler temperatures and more widespread low clouds.
Looking ahead to next week, the NWS said Santa Ana winds are expected to develop, ushering in another warming trend across the region.
