Moderate winds and slight warming are expected by mid-week for San Diego County, with gusts lightening up by next weekend, forecasters said Sunday.

Mountain areas could expect to see some light winds through the week, with a mix of clear and sunny conditions and highs ranging from the mid-60s to the low 70s. Inland valley regions will also have mild breezes and pleasant weather during the week, with highs in the low 70s.

Coastal San Diego will see mostly sunny conditions, with highs hitting the mid-60s to low 70s by mid-week.

While there is some rain expected in the state, most of it will be to the north, the National Weather Service said.

“Most likely, the precipitation will stay north of Point Conception with the trough next weekend,” said an update.

“Beyond that, the general  pattern of the storm track has precipitation every few days over northern/central California, but with low confidence (but not zero) for any precipitation in far southern California the week of Xmas.”

However, snow remains unlikely.

Downtown had a mostly cloudy Sunday morning giving way to gradually sunny conditions, with a high near 68 and some light wind.

Monday’s San Diego surf forecast includes a high-risk rip current with surf heights ranging from 3 to 5 feet, and a west swell from 280 degrees.

“Surf could be locally elevated due to longer-period northwest swells through Monday. Tides begin to lower after today, falling below 6 feet by midweek,” the NWS said.

Forecasters said marine conditions include stronger northwest winds in outer coastal waters starting Monday afternoon, with gusts reaching 20 knots from Monday evening through early Tuesday morning.

No hazardous marine weather is expected through Thursday.
