The U.S. Marine Corps and San Diego County teamed up Monday to launch this year’s Toys for Tots drive at local airports, inviting residents to help make the season bright for children in need.
Residents are asked to drop off new, unwrapped toys in a Toys for Tots donation box at one of five county airports until Dec. 14.
The participating airports include: McClellan Airport in Carlsbad, Gillespie Field in El Cajon, Fallbrook Airpark in Fallbrook, Ramona Airport in Ramona and Borrego Valley Airport in Borrego Springs.
All donations will be distributed to children in communities throughout San Diego County. Pilots are welcome to fly in to deliver their donations at the airports, organizers said.
The collection welcomes new, unwrapped toys including bikes, games, dolls, stuffed animals and other gifts that can bring joy to a child’s holiday season.
Continuing a tradition, Fallbrook Airpark and Ramona Airport will host special Toys for Tots collection events in December. Uniformed Marines will be at those locations to greet donors and personally collect the gifts.
The first event will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ramona Airport. The second will follow on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fallbrook Airpark.
