Although the record-breaking heat wave is expected to ease, it will be followed by mostly above-average temperatures through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures are expected to gradually cool by a few degrees each day across most of San Diego County as the week progresses.
High temperatures Tuesday could reach 73 to 78 near the coast, 83 to 87 inland, 86 to 91 in the western valleys, 93 to 98 near the foothills, 88 to 96 in the mountains and 106 to 109 in the deserts, NWS said.
The marine layer is forecast to deepen slightly during the week, bringing low clouds to the coast and parts of the western valleys during the night and morning hours.
By the weekend, coastal areas should see highs near typical levels, while inland areas will still experience temperatures 5 to 10 degrees above average.
