A San Diego Fire-Rescue team sent to assist victims of Hurricane Helene returned home Thursday night.

Hurricane Helene devastated the East Coast last weekend, leaving over 200 people dead and hundreds of roads closed.

Three of the squad members were hurt in a crash near the Texas-Louisiana border, according to a statement from the city. On Friday, the Fire-Rescue Department confirmed that one victim has been released from the hospital and two others are recovering.

“SDFD has been blown away by the support from public safety and communities in general,” said a representative from the department.

The rest of the team is set to return in the coming days.

“As you’ve seen in the footage and the aftermath of that hurricane, this is a disastrous event necessary of a national response, and I’m proud that our firefighters and this task force can be a part of that national response,” Mayor Gloria said.
