Residents in San Diego County valleys will continue to deal with sweltering early fall temperatures through 8 p.m. Thursday, when an excessive heat warning is set to expire.
Even then, only a few degrees of cooling are possible Thursday and Friday, as temperatures are expected to stay above average through the upcoming weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
The forecast includes parts of the cities of El Cajon, Escondido, La Mesa, San Marcos, Santee and Poway.
High temperatures for the inland valleys are set to reach the upper 90s and as high as
106. Low temperatures are forecast in the upper 60s to mid 70s for the far inland valleys near the foothills.
In Coachella Valley and San Diego County deserts, what the NWS called “dangerously hot conditions” will continue, with highs from 108 to 115 expected and lows in the mid 70s to around 90.
Forecasters say hot desert conditions also will persist beyond 8 p.m. Thursday, with “well above average temperatures” continuing through the weekend.
The NWS warns that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat. Warm overnight temperatures will lead to less relief from the heat, prolonging the impacts so it is important to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms and out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
