College students seeking work experience, adults hoping to enter the climate sector, residents hoping to tutor or mentor students — all are welcome in the California Service Corps, which announced this week that it is recruiting hundreds of paid volunteers from the San Diego region.
“In partnership with Governor Newsom and California Volunteers, the City of San Diego has provided paid internship opportunities to more than 800 young people through California Service Corps programs, giving them valuable public service experience and creating pathways to full-time employment while also earning a wage,” said Mayor Todd Gloria in a statement.
“We’re honored to be chosen as a key recruiting ground, and I’m grateful to the state for investing in our communities and providing thousands of service opportunities to help bring about positive change across California.”
Service members help communities in myriad ways, such as supporting communities affected by fires or floods, tutoring and mentoring students, and helping to connect vulnerable people to resources and services..
The recruitment drive comes at a crucial time for the state, said California Chief Service Officer Josh Fryday.
“These programs pave pathways for prosperity, propel progress on our most pressing issues, and promote unity to help unravel the crisis of social isolation and division.”
California Service Corps is administered by the governor’s office. It is made up of four paid service programs: #CaliforniansForAll College Corps, California Climate Action Corps, #CaliforniansForAll Youth Jobs Corps, and Americorps California.
