The North County Transit District and Caltrans Sunday are commemorating Rosa Parks’ birthday by participating in the nationwide Transit Equity Day in San Diego.
All NCTD modes of transportation including Coaster, Breeze, Sprinter, Flex and Lift will be fare-free Sunday, according to NCTD officials.
“In honor of Rosa Parks’ birthday, we commemorate her courageous act of resistance that helped pave the way for a safer, more equitable and accessible transportation system,” Caltrans said.
Parks, who became a civil rights icon because of her refusal to give up a seat on a public bus to a white rider, would be turning 111 Sunday.
