Crews have completed a $1.2 million project to improve safety and walkability in the Ramona Historic Business District.

Caltrans repaved the Main Street intersections at 7th Street and 10th Street, installed new textured/stamped and colored crosswalks and painted signal posts throughout the downtown district.

The project was a collaboration between Caltrans, the Ramona Community Planning Group and the Ramona Design Review Board to enhance community character and improve pedestrian safety and access to active transportation elements.

At a Friday ceremony, San Diego County Supervisor Joel Anderson, along with representatives for Rep. Darrell Issa, state Senator Brian Jones and Assembly member Marie Waldron, joined members of the Ramona planning group, Ramona Leadership Council and Caltrans District 11 Director Gustavo Dallarda to celebrate the project’s completion.

“Ramona’s Historic Business District is the heart and soul of the Ramona community and I am glad that Caltrans and Clean California are bringing much needed attention to our region,” Anderson said in a news release from Caltrans.

The work was funded by Gov. Gavin Newsom’s $1.2 billion Clean California initiative, a multi-year effort led by Caltrans to beautify public spaces, remove millions trash from roadways, create jobs and engage communities throughout the state to transform public spaces.

“Caltrans has partnered with communities throughout the state to identify and develop Clean California projects that meet the specific needs of each individual region and neighborhood,” Dallarda said. “By working together – as we have done in bringing the Ramona Improvement project to successful completion – we are helping restore public pride in our communities.”
