Caltrans crews working on the Interstate 8 Bridge Rehabilitation Project between La Mesa and El Cajon will close lanes in both directions for night work beginning Sunday.

Motorists will have access to the same number of lanes when the freeway reopens each morning, but the following lanes between Grossmont Boulevard and Marshall Avenue will close to make way for workers:

  • Sunday and Monday – from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., eastbound and westbound left two lanes (lanes 1 and 2).
  • Tuesday – from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., eastbound and westbound left two lanes; from10 p.m. to 3 a.m., westbound lane 3 and from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Main Street on-ramp.
  • Wednesday –from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., eastbound and westbound left two lanes, and from midnight to 5 a.m., westbound lane 3.
  • Thursday – from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., eastbound and westbound left two lanes.

The closures are a part of a six-mile, $27.7 million project that involves bridge rehabilitation and concrete slab repairs on both westbound and eastbound I-8. The work schedule is subject to change due to weather, traffic incidents, or other construction considerations.
