The first heat wave of the summer will bring triple-digit temperatures to the San Diego mountains and deserts this weekend, though sparing the coast because of the marine layer.
“Very hot conditions are expected across inland areas through next week, with the peak of the heat occurring this weekend,” the National Weather Service said.
Temperatures were expected to be 10 to 15 degrees above average inland, but a shallow marine layer will cool the coast on Friday and Saturday.
An excessive heat warning for the valleys goes into effect at 10 a.m. on Friday and will continue until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Highs on Thursday were forecast to be 77 to 82 near the coast, 87 to 92 inland, 94 to 99 in the valleys, 89 to 99 in the mountains and 11 to 116 in the deserts.
Due to the extreme heat, Cedar Creek Falls, Eagle Peak trails, the San Diego River Gorge and Three Sisters Falls have been closed until further notice, according to Cleveland National Forest officials.
