Thousands of San Diegan’s are expected to bicycle to work on Thursday for SANDAG‘s annual Bike Anywhere Day.

The event, formerly known as Bike to Work Day, promotes the region’s growing network of bike lanes and routes, with over 1,800 miles available to riders.

“SANDAG Bike Anywhere Day is a perfect opportunity to promote sustainable transportation and stronger communities,” said SANDAG and San Diego County Chairwoman Nora Vargas. “I encourage everyone to ride a bike to explore our beautiful county — it’s a fun and healthy way to get where you need to go while helping improve air quality for all.”

Riders will find more that 100 pit stops where hey can pick up a free commemorative t-shirt and grab refreshments and snacks.

Last year, nearly 7,000 people visited the pit stops around the region.

For more than 30 years, SANDAG has hosted this regional event to celebrate Bike Month in May and promote biking as a viable, fun and healthy alternative transportation choice for everyday trips.
