The nationwide movement to develop “tiny houses” — living spaces under 1,000 square feet — is coming to Del Mar with a two-day expo at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

Homes of this size can be less expensive, more environmentally friendly and even portable.

TinyFest California 2022 is bringing together like-minded people from all over California and beyond who value the ideals behind building small and living large,” said organizers of the Del Mar expo.

The event, the third of its type over the years, takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, March 12-13, at the fairgrounds Expo Hall.

On display will be the latest models of tiny houses, van conversions, converted bus “skoolies,” backyard cottages, shipping container homes, and related products and services.

“For many in this time of COVID, ‘going tiny’ is more than just buying and moving into a tiny home,” said TinyFest CEO Renee McLaughlin. “It’s about sustainability, autonomy, flexibility, and freedom — financial freedom, freedom of mobility, and freedom from stuff and stress.”

Tickets to the expo are $15 and available online.
