San Diego County’s Bike Anywhere Week begins Sunday, as officials ask residents to take part by biking to work, school, the beach, the store, or just around their neighborhoods.

The event, in honor of National Bike Month, continues through Saturday.

Residents may take a pledge, Go by Bike, to replace a car trip with a bike ride in the coming week. Those who do qualify to pick up a free T-shirt at one of 10 locations throughout the region.

The board leadership for the San Diego Association of Governments, including Encinitas Mayor Catherine Blakespear, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and National City Mayor Alejandra Sotelo-Solis, took the pledge.

San Diego Padres announcers Tony Gwynn Jr. and Mark Grant joined in as well.

The week includes a number of activities, from bike tours to contests to classes on bike safety and commuting. Self-guided activities also take advantage of popular bike paths, such as the Bayshore Bikeway, Inland Rail Trail and the San Diego River Trail.
