Cirque du Soleil’s Volta
Cirque du Soleil comes to town this weekend for a one-month engagement with Volta, which draws inspiration from the world of BMX.
A full-blown BMX park is mounted on stage in front of the audience’s very eyes for the breathtaking BMX finale as riders invade the stage to deliver a jaw-dropping, fast and furious performance of nonstop acrobatics on wheels.
The ramps are made of thick, heavy-duty bulletproof glass so as not to block the view of spectators.
Cirque du Soleil’s Volta opens this weekend and goes until May 5. Show times are 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets range from $49 to $245.
Goodguys 19th Meguiar’s Del Mar Nationals
More than 2,500 hot rods, customs, classics street rods, muscle cars and trick trucks are coming to the Del Mar Fairgrounds this weekend.
In addition to the vintage cars, there is also vendor exhibits, indoor car show, swap meet and cars for sale, in case you’re looking for parts for your hot rods or are in the market for one. There is also a Kids Zone as well as live music.
The Goodguys 19th Meguiar’s Del Mar Nationals goes from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets range from $6 to $55.
San Diego Crew Classic
Thousands of college and high school athletes are coming to San Diego this weekend for the first major regatta of the year.
The San Diego Crew Classic is a competition for future Olympians as well as those new to the sport. The event not only brings out the competitors at the top of their game but is also a social gathering. There are great local food, a beer garden and craft vendors.
The San Diego Crew Classic goes from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in Mission Bay. Tickets are $15 or $12 for early birds special. Military, students with IDs and children under 12 are free.
Race for Autism
You don’t have to be a superhero to help change the lives of thousands of San Diegans, just join Race For Autism this weekend.
The race features a 5K chip-timed run/walk or a 1-mile Superhero Family Fun Walk through Balboa Park. There is also educational resource fair, music and children’s activities.
All donations from the race go to support San Diego autism programs.
Race For Autism goes from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Registration fees range from $20 to $40.
SeaWorld’s Seven Seas Food Festival
Foodies and craft beer aficionados, this festival is for you. SeaWorld’s Seven Seas Food Festival features craft beer from local breweries with international cuisine from around the world.
You can sip and sample your way around the world of international street food traditions, craft beers and wines, and enjoy live musical performances along the way.
The Seven Seas Food Festival goes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends through April 28 and is free with admission to the park.
