The National Weather Service is forecasting rain along the coast and heavy snowfall in the San Diego mountains on Sunday.
Rain is expected to develop across the region on Sunday morning, with the snow level dropping to 2,500 feet.
“Periods of snow and strong winds will intensify over the mountains, creating hazardous travel conditions by Sunday evening,” the weather service said.
The snowfall is expected to total 8 to 12 inches on Palomar Mountain and Mt. Laguna, and 1 to 2 inches in Julian. All mountain areas are under a winter storm warning.
Rainfall amounts will be less than a quarter inch along the coast, but up to an inch in the foothills.
The showers and snow are expected to taper off on Monday morning.
