It’s the first weekend of the new year.

There are a few happening events around town to help you ease into the new year. Here’s your guide.

San Diego Spring Home Show

Planning on some home improvement for the spring or just want to declutter and organize your home?  The San Diego Spring Home Show is the place to be this weekend.

The three-day expo features products and services to draw inspiration from to make that dream project a reality. Home improvement experts are there to help you with the minor renovation or a major remodel.

The San Diego Spring Home Show goes from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are free if you print a pass from home or $10 at the doors.

Friday Night Liberty: New Year, New Art

The for first of the monthly free art walk at Liberty Station, the Arts District will feature the grand opening of Anneville Jewelry Lab, the newest jewelry maker co-work space.

The free event features music, food, a raffle with all sorts of prizes. In addition, there are dance, music and theatre performances.

Friday Night Liberty goes from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Liberty Station Arts District.

Minefaire: Official Minecraft Community Event

Minefaire is a convention for all the Minecraft fanatics out there. The event features tournament and build battles, live stage shows as well as the famed costume contest.

The con also has events for parents to get involved in the massively popular video game, such as the parent-child build challenges. Minecraft YouTube celebrities will be there as well as Minecraft developers.

Minefaire: Official Minecraft Community Event goes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Convention Center. Tickets range from $39.99 to $89.99.

ArchaeoCon 2019

For all those budding archaeologists out there, come celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Archaeological Institute of America at the ArchaeoCon.

The con features, hands-on experiences, demonstrations, archeology presentations and an “ancient game tournament” based on board games from Mesopotamia.

ArchaeoCon goes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Marriott Marquis. Tickets are $10 for general admission.

Bodhi Tree Concerts 2019

The Ira Liss Big Band Jazz Machine will perform at the Cuvier Club, the first event of the Bodhi Tree Concerts 2019 season.

Ira Liss Big Band Jazz Machine is an 18-piece jazz orchestra that plays 1930s and 1940s big band music, as well as rock, mambo and salsa. Proceeds from the performance benefit the Visa Joven de Mexico Orphanage.

Bodhi Tree Concerts: Ira Liss Big Band Jazz Machine performance starts at 4 p.m. Sunday at The Cuvier Club La Jolla. Tickets are $25 general admission and $15 for students and military members. A season subscription is also available for $80.
