If you have an overdue library fine in Chula Vista, starting next month you can clear those fines and help feed local families in need as well.

The Chula Vista Public Library is launching its annual “Food for Fines” campaign. Starting Dec. 1, patrons can donate non-perishable food items, such as Non-perishable items such as canned or boxed foods, and dried pasta, in lieu of paying fines. The fines will be waived at $1 per item.

You can still donate even if you don’t owe any fines.

Donations are accepted at the following branches:

  • Civic Center, 365 F Street;
  • South Chula Vista, 389 Orange Avenue;
  • and Otay Ranch at the Otay Ranch Town Center

The library will waive a maximum of $10 in overdue fines per library card in exchange for donated food. Fines for lost, damaged books will not be waived.
