With the season of giving quickly approaching, calendars fill up with family feasts. For the furry companions of challenged San Diegans, however, a holiday meal can be hard to come by. To assist, Gelson’s in Del Mar is not only providing delicious ideas for upcoming seasonal meal prep, but also an opportunity to put the “give” back into Thanksgiving with an AniMeals pet food donation drive. Families and their four-legged companions are invited to People and Pets Day at Gelson’s on Saturday, Nov. 10, beginning at 10 a.m..
Gelson’s holiday-themed People and Pets Day offers a variety of tastes, delights and sights for people and pups of all ages. Along with Thanksgiving-inspired foods to sample inside and outside the store, attendees and their cute pets can show off their best looks and pose in front of a Thanksgiving-themed backdrop for photos (perfect for holiday cards), and participate in opportunity drawings and meet-and-greets with new furry friends available for adoption from Helen Woodward Animal Center and Southern California Newfoundland Rescue.
Additionally, parents can check out luxury vehicles by Ferrari and Maserati along with other local vendors; pups can try their paw at a fun dog-agility course set up by dog trainer Rob Kuty with San Diego Pet Training; and kids can enjoy craft stations set up to create holiday-themed cards and thank-you notes to pet adopters.
At the heart of the event, however, is the opportunity to give to pets in need. Visitors are encouraged to give a pet food donation to support Helen Woodward Animal Center’s AniMeals program. AniMeals provides pet food to low-income individuals, home-bound seniors, military personnel and most recently, San Diego’s homeless population to ensure their furry companions have the nutrition they need year-round. Pet food will be available for purchase at Gelson’s and collection barrels will be set up at the event.
