SeaWorld San Diego announced Tuesday the birth of a bottlenose dolphin calf in the aquatic theme park’s Dolphin Amphitheater.

The 29-year-old dolphin Melanie gave birth at 4:37 p.m. on Monday to her third calf. The baby’s weight was estimated at 40 pounds. The gender will be determined in coming weeks.

Veterinarians at SeaWorld report that mother and baby appear to be in good health and are swimming together and bonding.

It was a late-in-life birth pregnancy for Melanie, who had her first calf, Griffith, in 1998 and second, Madison, in 2000.
