The San Diego County Credit Union Friday announced the launch of its eighth annual holiday toy drive to benefit patients at Rady Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

All 43 of the credit union’s branches will accept new, unwrapped toys through Dec. 17. According to officials, the hospitals cannot accept stuffed animals and violent-looking toys such as Nerf or water guns.

SDCCU customers and employees donated roughly 1,600 toys during the 2017 drive.

“We encourage everyone to pick up an extra toy while they are out shopping this holiday season to give to these courageous children who find themselves in need of pediatric healthcare,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck Campbell. “This small gesture is bound to put big smiles on the faces of youngsters during their time at Rady Children’s.”

In addition to the credit union’s own toy drive, SDCCU will partner with the AJ’s Kids Crane toy drive for patients at Rady Children’s Hospital. Donated items for both toy drives will be used by individual patients throughout the year, and in playrooms and support groups. Residents can donate to the Kids Crane toy drive, led by Sunny 98.1 radio host A.J. Machado, at SDCCU branches through Nov. 1.
