With new, state-of-the-art locomotives on order, the North County Transit District is asking the riding public to vote on a new paint scheme for its iconic Coaster trains.

The agency posted two options on its website, and asked riders to vote online for their preference.

Both options keep the sea green, deep blue and white colors, but use them in different ocean wave patterns.

When the new diesel-electric Siemens Charger locomotives arrive, the current fleet of cars will be repainted in the new scheme.

The agency is also looking for input on a new logo. Both polls are open until Aug. 17.

NCTD serves 11 million passengers in North San Diego County annually with Coaster and Sprinter trains and the Breeze bus system.
