World Surf League Supergirl Surf Pro

With the surf we’ve been getting lately, it’s a perfect time for the annual Supergirl Surf Pro in Oceanside this weekend.

It’s the largest women’s surfing competition in the world. The event features world-renowned surfers such as Stephanie Gilmore, Carissa Moore and Lakey Peterson. They are competing for a spot int he World Surf League’s 2019 Women’s World Championship Tour.

The three-day event is also a women’s empowerment festival featuring artists such as Cody Simpson, Drake Bell and the Vamps.

The World Surf League Supergirl Surf Pro goes from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

Imperial Beach Surf Dog Competition

Surfing is going to the dogs this weekend. These “surf-furs” are hanging paws to raise funds for the San Diego Humane Society.

More than 60 pups are expected to compete in this charity event next to Imperial Beach Pier. Don’t have a dog to enter in the contest, you can watch all the puppers from the dog-friendly beer garden that opens at 9 a.m.

The Imperial Beach Surf Dog Competition goes from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Nat Diego Natural Wine Festival

What is natural wine? It’s wine made using traditional techniques, without additives or chemicals that are inherent in industrial winemaking.

More than 60 natural winemakers will be at the second annual festival in Barrio Logan to give you a taste of their wines, all of which are made by hand and farmed responsibly. Natural winemakers claim these wines taste better and are better for you.

Nat Diego Natural Wine Festival goes from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and 8 p.m. to midnight Sunday. The Grand Tasting is the signature event where you will have the chance to sample the most wine. Ticket prices vary, but the Grand Tasting tickets are $50 per person.

Sip of Julian

Julian is more than just apples and apple pies. It is also wine, beer, hard cider, mead and craft cocktails.

This weekend, Julian’s alcoholic beverage purveyors will offer up a sampling of their hand-crafted specialties. The event is a fundraiser for Julian’s Annual Country Christmas and Tree Lighting Celebration.

The 4th annual Sip of Julian goes from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $25 and they limited. The first 125 people will recive a commemorative Sip of Julian glass.

On the Steps at SDMA: Telling Epic Tales

San Diego Museum of Art’s On the Steps Series is a live art event and performances. This weekend, the museum is celebrating its summer exhibit, “Epic Takes from Ancient India.”

The free event features Bollywood-inspired dance performances, live art by local makers, henna artists, art-making activities, such as rangoli, where visitors make art on the ground using materials such as colored rice, dry flour, colored sand or flower petals.

There is also a screening of the costume epic “Mughal-e-Azam” that starts at 7 p.m. The screening requires a separate admission.

On the Steps at SDMA: Telling Epic Tales goes from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. The event is free (including admission to the museum).
