Construction crews will close up to three lanes of northbound and southbound State Route 163 (SR-163) beginning 3 a.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday between Friars Road and Genesee Avenue, according to Caltrans.
The lane closures will continue the remainder of the week nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday, April 27. The work is part of the SR-163 Friars Road Interchange Project.
During the Sunday closure, crews will close two lanes in each direction primarily during the early morning and late evening hours when traffic volumes are lowest. Two lanes will be open during the afternoon and early evening hours motorists.
The $40 million project will widen the SR-163 Friars Road overcrossing as well as improve the SR-163 on- and off-ramps. In addition, a southbound SR-163 auxiliary lane just north of the Friars Road off-ramp will be constructed.
Caltrans reminds drivers to ‘Be Work Zone Alert’ by avoiding distracted driving, paying constant attention to traffic, and slowing down when approaching work zones.
