A cold low-pressure system is forecast to swing across Southern California Friday night, bringing a change of rain to San Diego and snow to local mountains, according to the National Weather Service.
A winter weather advisory is in effect from 5 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday for San Diego County mountains, according to the NWS.
The system will bring light rain, gusty winds and cold temperatures. The snow level is expected to fall rapidly through Friday evening, with areas of westerly winds 25 to 35 mph and gusts to around 55 mph. Several inches of snow is forecast to accumulate above the 3,000-foot level through Saturday morning.
The NWS is advising that travel in local mountains may be difficult, due to snowy, slippery roads and limited visibility.
A chance of rain is forecast for San Diego coastal areas Friday. Daytime temperatures through the weekend are expected to reach the low 60s with overnight lows dipping into the high 40s by Sunday night.
High surf is expected as the cold front rolls over the region, with swells up to 12 feet through Saturday.
