For a second consecutive day, a year-end spate of unseasonably warm weather generated several notable high temperatures Friday in the San Diego area.

The unseasonably balmy spell led to maximum mercury readings of 86 degrees in Ramona and 68 on Palomar Mountain, matching both locales’ prior Dec. 29 records, set in 1980 and 2011 respectively, according to the National Weather Service.

A brief cooling trend is expected over the weekend in advance of another spell of higher-than-normal temperatures on New Year’s Day and into the middle of next week, the NWS said.
