The National Weather Service office in San Diego said Thursday a pair of long-period northwest swells will bring high surf, strong rip currents and minor tidal flooding to local beaches through the weekend.

Waves are expected to reach 3-6 feet with sets up to 7 feet on west-facing beaches south of Del Mar.

Minor tidal flooding is possible with unusual 7-foot high tides on Saturday and Sunday, and could top rocks, jetties and low-lying parking lots.

“Surf heights should come down early next week,” the weather service said. “However, unusually high tides will continue on Monday and Tuesday.”
