A long period south swell will bring high surf and rip currents to San Diego beaches starting Monday night and continuing through Thursday, according to forecasters.
The National Weather Service office in San Diego said waves will be 3 to 6 feet with sets reaching 7 feet along southwest facing beaches. The highest surf will be north of Del Mar.
Tides of nearly 6 feet could top jetties and coastal rock formations.
The elevated surf and rip currents will come during unusually warm weather that is expected to draw many to the beaches. Highs in the upper 80s are forecast for San Diego on Monday, dropping to the mid 80s Tuesday and Wednesday.
“Coinciding warm temperatures may encourage beach goes to enter the water when they otherwise would not,” the weather service warned.
