Some adoptable dogs were already in full superhero cosplay mode Saturday, as comic book nerds and pop culture junkies continue prepping for San Diego’s Comic-Con.
The Helen Woodward Animal Center mashed nerd culture with adorable super pets looking for forever homes at their fifth annual PAWmicon event. It was held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Hazard Center.
PAWmicon has grown in popularity, winning a reputation as the best place to see the snuggliest superheroes in San Diego, according to Hazard Center officials. The family-friendly event included carnival games, fun snacks and the glorious PAWSplay Contest.
Comical critters included “Bark Kent,” the Superdog, “Woof Vader” from The Empire Barks Back, “Robb Bark” from Game of Bones, “Boo” from Pixar’s PAW-nsters Inc and “Woof-erine.” Hazard Center officials said prizes were awarded to the top three costumes.
All funds raised at the event went to the pets and programs at Helen Woodward Animal Center.
