It was a match made in a hospital, when a doctor and patient celebrated cancer survival with a ballroom dance performance in La Jolla Sunday.
When Scripps Health oncologist Dr. Irene Hutchins began treating cancer patient Steve Valentine last year, neither knew they shared a common bond as former national champion ballroom dancers, according to Scripps Health.
Once the discovery was made, Hutchins promised they would dance together after Valentine recovered from an aggressive and rapidly progressing form of lymphoma — a pledge she says visibly uplifted her now cancer-free patient.

The dance took place at Scripps Green Hospital at 11 a.m. when Scripps Health began its annual series of events to celebrate patients who have survived cancer and the medical professionals who treated them.
Similar celebrations are planned at other Scripps Health facilities around San Diego County this month.
