Former Assistant Sheriff Tim Curran was hired to oversee field security operations for the Metropolitan Transportation System, San Diego’s transit agency announced Wednesday.

Curran, a 27-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department, will be second-in-command of transit security, answering to MTS Chief of Police Manuel Guaderrama. He’ll supervise 165 contracted security officers and 35 code compliance inspectors.

“Tim has the background and experience to help MTS continue the excellent track record of keeping our customers safe,” said Paul Jablonski, chief executive of MTS. “He will bring a well-rounded approach and seasoned experience to the enforcement arm of MTS transit operations.”

As assistant sheriff, he managed human resources functions and court services.
