Caltrans will close Interstate 5 near Manchester Avenue in Encinitas on Sunday morning to remove overhead power lines as part of a freeway upgrade project.

The rolling closures in both directions will last 15 to 20 minutes between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Removal of the power lines is part of the North Coast Corridor Project to extend the carpool lanes on the freeway and replace the bridge over the San Elijo Lagoon.

Local power services are not expected to be interrupted during the removal of the overhead lines.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Nearby residents can expect intermittent noise and lights during construction.
