Three members of the San Diego Police Department were honored Wednesday at the annual Women in Blue luncheon.
The event, hosted by the San Diego Police Foundation, recognized Captain Sandra Albrektsen, special agent Aida Vasquez and police dispatch administrator Roxanne Cahill.
“Women in Blue puts leadership, wisdom and inspiration in the spotlight,” said Sara Napoli, president and CEO of the San Diego Police Foundation. “The stories of women leaders in law enforcement continue to impart wisdom that is both inspiring and practical, providing role models for young people aspiring to leadership in law enforcement. It is an honor for the San Diego Police Foundation to be able to recognize the tremendous work of these deserving law enforcement professionals.”
Albrektsen, who has been with the San Diego Police Department since 1985, started her career in the Crime Analysis Unit before transferring to the Police Academy in 1990. In 1996, she was promoted to Sergeant and now serves as captain overseeing narcotics, domestic violence, child abuse, sex crimes, sex registrants, vice, human trafficking, and the Narcotics Task Force.
Vasquez began her career in law enforcement in 1991 at an entry-level administrative position with the U.S. Customs Service. After working her way through the ranks and receiving many commendations and citations along the way, Vasquez was promoted to supervisory special agent and was assigned to lead the Bulk Cash Smuggling Group.
Cahill began her career as a 911 Dispatcher in December 2000 and advanced to police dispatcher in January 2002. In 2013, Roxanne was selected to become a police dispatch administrator. She is responsible for hiring nearly 100 dispatchers.
The annual Women in Blue luncheon was held at the Marriott Marquis in downtown San Diego.
