A local campaign raised more than $428,000 for Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, as part of a national campaign for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, according to a representative for Walmart and Sam’s Club associates.

Customers and members have wrapped up a seven-week campaign at Walmart and Sam’s Club Associates that collected nearly $37 million for member hospitals across America. The representative said when stores through San Diego County asked shoppers to ‘help kids live better,’ the donations poured in.

“Many special programs rely on community support to operate, and with Walmart’s support, Rady Children’s will be better equipped to provide the excellent patient care we are known for nationwide,” said Carol Damon-Scherer, Vice President of Development for Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation, in a statement.

Besides collecting donations, stores held various fundraising activities to help kids through the Hospital’s Hope & Healing Fund, said the representative. The program helped fund lifesaving technology and research and create a safety net for children with little or no medical insurance.

Thanks to this fundraiser, disadvantaged youth will have a better chance of accessing the critical services and treatment they need to help them live healthy lives, said the representative. With Walmart’s contributions, Rady Children’s is able to fulfill the most pressing needs of the hospital and positively impact children across the community.
