A predawn house fire sparked by improperly discarded fireplace embers caused an estimated $100,000 worth of monetary losses in a Paradise Hills-area neighborhood Tuesday, authorities reported.
The non-injury blaze in the 2300 block of Calle Trepadora erupted at about 2:15 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. It took crews roughly 20 minutes to get the flames under control.
Investigators determined that hot ashes dumped in a plastic container outside the single-story house caused the fire, SDFRD spokesman Lee Swanson said.
The damages were set at $50,000 each to the structure and contents.
