A Pacific cold front will bring rain to the San Diego area and snow to the mountains starting Sunday afternoon.

The National Weather Service office in San Diego said a few showers will develop during the day Sunday but the brunt of this storm system will come after dark Sunday evening, and continue through Monday morning.

“A cold front moving in from the northwest will bring moderate to locally heavy rain at times tonight through early Monday, along with high elevation snow and a slight chance of thunderstorms,” the weather service said.

Rainfall totals of .5 inches are forecast for coastal areas, but the mountains could get over an inch. Heavy snow is possible above 7,000 feet.

Forecasters said pockets of heavy rain in the mountains may produce debris flow, and street flooding is possible in urban areas.

Highs Sunday in San Diego will be in the mid 60s and lows overnight are expected to be in the mid 50s, with colder nighttime temperatures inland.
