Power outages linked to thunderstorms and lightning strikes left more than 2,100 San Diego-area homes and businesses without electrical service for hours Monday.

Most of the extended blackouts occurred over a roughly four-hour period beginning around 3 a.m. and affected about 2,140 utility customers, said San Diego Gas & Electric spokeswoman Elizabeth Beaver.

By late morning, service had been restored to all but 395 addresses in University Heights and another 130 in City Heights, Beaver said.

Those neighborhoods were back on line, as well, by midafternoon, according to SDG&E.
