The fifth annual U.S. Sand Sculpting Challenge returns to San Diego this weekend.

This must-see event, which will be held ‘B’ Street Cruise Ship Pier downtown, will feature the work of World Master Class sand artists who will be sculpting for four days.

With more than 300 tons of sand, sculptors from all around the world will be in San Diego including Katsuhiko Chaen from Japan, Agnese Rudzite-Kirillova from Latvia, and Benjamin Probanza from Spain.

On top of witnessing some impressive work, attendees can expect to live entertainment, gourmet food trucks and kid-friendly activities.

Tickets start at $6 for kids and $8 for adults.

Here are some other events happening this weekend:

Beach Cleanup

Do some good this weekend with the Surfrider Foundation. The organization, which aims to protect local waters and beaches, will host its monthly beach cleanup in Oceanside on Saturday. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and starts at the north side of the Oceanside Pier. Supplies will be provided but volunteer are also encouraged to bring their own reusable bags, buckets and work gloves.

Bacon Fest

Saturday marks International Bacon Day and San Diego is celebrating with a festival. The San Diego Bacon Festival, which takes place at Liberty Station, includes unlimited samples from beverage and food vendors. (Yes, that means unlimited bacon). Of course, a San Diego festival isn’t complete with craft beers, so you can expect plenty of that as well. Tickets start at $60. The event runs from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Deep Pit BBQ

Enjoy some of the best BBQ in San Diego County with the 79th annual Our Lady of Light BBQ. The event, which kicks off at 10 a.m. Sunday, includes barbecue meat cooked overnight for eight hours. Other than slow-cooked beef, visitors can expect homemade apple pies, crafts and live music. There will also be a “super yard sale” and raffles. The event is free in Descanso and open to the public.

Hawaiian Plumeria Festival

Enjoy the sights of an extensive plumeria collection at the 17th annual Hawaiian Plumeria Festival. The event, which runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Balboa Park, features a potted plant sale, flower show, live entertainment and plenty of gifts to take home. The event is free and open to the public.
