The Holiday Bowl and U.S. Bank have announced an inaugural sporting goods drive in October to provide athletic equipment to underprivileged youth in San Diego.
The “Give the Gear” event is scheduled for Oct. 15 at Qualcomm Stadium. Organizers encouraged the public Monday to donate their gently used athletic gear.
Occupants of the first 500 vehicles to enter the giveaway area will receive two free tickets to the Holiday Bowl football game, which matches schools from the Pac-12 and Big Ten conferences on Dec. 27.
“The sporting goods drive will have a direct impact on our local youth, encourage an active lifestyle and promote a passion for sports,” said Ted Tollner, president of the 2016 Holiday Bowl.
“For 38 years now, the mission of the nonprofit Holiday Bowl has been to boost the San Diego economy and enrich the community by producing one of the nation’s top bowl games and festival of events,” Tollner said. “Thanks to our partner, U.S. Bank, we can share the bowl experience with our community and come together to support local YMCAs and underprivileged youth.”
The event will take place 8 a.m. to noon in the Qualcomm Stadium parking lot, section B3.
