A slowly building ridge of high pressure will bring a mini heat wave during the second half of the week, with afternoon high temperatures running 5 to 10 degrees above seasonal averages.

Temperatures in San Diego will peak at 79 degrees on Friday and Saturday, Highs inland will be from the high 80s to low 90s, and close to 100 near the eastern foothills.

The marine layer will pull back, leaving clearer skies in the mornings and evenings.

The National Weather Service doesn’t expect any records to be broken, but a heat advisory could be issued for inland areas later in the week.

A gradual cooling trend is expected to begin on Sunday.
