Celebrate diversity this weekend with the annual San Diego Pride Parade and Festival.

The three-day event is one of the biggest events in San Diego County. Hosted by the the San Diego Pride nonprofit, the event aims to raise awareness and celebrate the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community.

Festivities kick off with a block party from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday. In the heart of Hillcrest, attendees will enjoy sounds from local DJs, carnival rides and go-go dancers. Gourmet food trucks and drinks will also be on deck.

The celebration continues Saturday with the at 11 a.m. Saturday with a parade down University Avenue to 6th Avenue with more than 100 floats and participants.

The event is complete with a music festival from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday in Balboa Park. The lineup includes Erick Diaz, DJ Taj and the Gay Men’s Chorus.

Del Mar Races

It’s racing season! The Del Mar Race Track officially opens Friday and more than 40,000 fans are expected to attend. But the day just isn’t about the horses and races, opening day is most known for its fashion. So, grab your fanciest hat and head to the coast for the track’s annual Opening Day Hats Contest.


Yoga Aboard the Midway

Join yogis from throughout San Diego County for the third annual “Stretch Yourself with Scripps” yoga class on the flight deck of the historic USS Midway. The event, hosted by Scripps Health and the Downtown Partnership, is a free class aimed at promoting a healthy San Diego. This year, participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite comic book character. The event takes place at 8 a.m. with registration beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday.

Oceanside Concerts

On Friday, The Greg Douglass Band will perform rock and roll favorites. Greg
Douglass is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (formerly with the Steve Miller Band). The concert starts at 5 p.m. at Rancho Del Oro Park at 4701 Mesa Dr. in Oceanside. On Sunday, Taylor Tickner and Robert Parker will perform from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Heritage Park at 220 Peyri Drive in Oceanside.

Over the Line

The annual Over the Line tournament continues this weekend with the best of the best competing in the 63rd annual event. The game is made up of teams of three players who are required to hit the ball over the line, which is about 55 feet out. The tournament takes place at Fiesta Island in Mission Bay Park on both Saturday and Sunday beginning at 7:30 a.m. Watching the game is free and open to the public.
