A new trail is opening in Del Mar to give walkers a closer view of the San Dieguito Lagoon.

The extension of the River Path Del Mar will be celebrated Saturday on Lagoon Day. The San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy, the San Dieguito River Park and the city of Del Mar will host family-friendly festivities throughout the day.

“The River Path Del Mar provides the community a unique view of three wetland areas as they walk, including the San Dieguito River, Lagoon and Estuary,” said Trish Boaz, Executive Director of the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy. “It’s a perfect opportunity for nature education and outdoor recreation for people of all ages and abilities.”

Activities from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. include a birdwing open air classroom, hands-on activities and arts and crafts.

From 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m., a ribbon cutting and celebration will take place hosted by Vigilante Brewing Co. featuring craft beers, local wines, delicious food and live music.
