A Carlsbad man is hoping a June event will further attract people to North County’s culinary scene.

Nol Calabrese, owner of Baker & Olive, is hosting North Eats where attendees will have the opportunity to sample food from more than 30 participating chefs, restaurants and brands based north of state Route 56.

“The goal of North Eats was to put the spotlight on the all the great chefs and restaurant that have started this renaissance going on north of the 56 freeway,” Calabrese said.

The event, which will be in its third year, is the brainchild of a neighbor of Calabrese. Since the inception of North Eats, Baker & Olive has served as the lead sponsor of the event.

“This year Baker & Olive has taken over more of a leadership role but I think the spirit is the same as the previous years,” Calabrese said. “We all have a sense of pride about living and eating in North County. North County has a tremendous food scene. These chefs are incredibly talented but also very understated. They place the emphasis on the food.”

Participating restaurants of North Eats, which will take place on June 26 at Cape Rey in Carlsbad, include:

  • Blue Ribbon Pizza
  • Craftsman New American Tavern
  • Wrench & Rodent Seabasstropub
  • Panca Peruvian
  • Petite Madeline Bakery
  • Living Tea Brewing Company
  • Bull Taco

The event will be complete with a live cooking competition by 94.9 DJs Chris Cantore and Steve Woods, and live music by North County artists Barnwell Shift.

Tickets are $65 each with $5 of every purchase going to Feeding America in San Diego County.
