Updated at 5:09 p.m. April 28, 2016:
A power outage left thousands of homes and businesses without electricity Thursday afternoon in Bay Park, Clairemont, Linda Vista, Mission Valley, the Morena district and Pacific Beach.
The blackout began shortly before 2 p.m., initially affecting nearly 4,200 addresses, according to San Diego Gas & Electric.
As of 4:30 p.m., service had been restored to all but 951 customers, the utility reported. Those addresses were expected to have electricity again no later than 6 a.m. Friday, SDG&E advised.
The cause of the problem was unclear, though a fire on a utility pole and a downed power line were reported in the area of Frankfort and Napier streets, just east of Mission Bay, at about the time the outage began, according to San Diego police.
