A spring heat wave that has been keeping the San Diego area toasty over the last few days resulted in a few temperature records Monday afternoon.
Milestone thermometer readings were logged in Chula Vista, where the swelter reached 90 degrees, beating the old April 18 record of 84, set in 1999; and in San Diego, where the high was 86, topping the 82-degree mark recorded in 1879, according to the National Weather Service.
The latter city also tied its prior record for high-minimum temperature for the date — 62 degrees, a figure last seen in 2014.
A return of low-pressure conditions is expected to lower mercury readings to average levels by the end of the workweek and bring a slight chance of showers on Friday, the NWS reported.
