The San Diego Zoo is celebrating its 100th anniversary, beginning this weekend.

The “Spring Break of the Century” includes a new show at Wegeforth Bowl, a fun and lively tribute to the Zoo’s centennial. Named after the Zoo’s founder, Dr. Harry Wegeforth, Wegeforth Bowl has been hosting animal presentations since 1936.

This year, a new Centennial Celebration animal show opens with a film about 10 reasons to celebrate the San Diego Zoo’s 100th birthday, and then showcases the amazing talents ofour great animal ambassadors.

Guests can stay after the show to meet some of the animal ambassadors with their trainers or head to a centennial-themed costumed character experience on Centennial Plaza.

Designed especially for children, this musical performance takes place on a gigantic birthday cake stage and gets kids involved in singing a rousing chorus of “You Belong in the Zoo.”

Kids and families then have the chance for a meet-and-greet with the Zoo costumed characters.

Other centennial happenings include a history mural, a film experience and a concert at the Organ Pavilion.
