Crews will close northbound state Route 15 from Interstate 805 to Interstate 8 from 7 p.m. Tuesday until 5 a.m. Wednesday, Caltrans said Monday.

The closures are needed to perform concrete paving work as part of the SR-15 Mid-City Centerline Rapid Transit Stations Project, the agency said.

The connector ramps from northbound I-805 to northbound SR-15 and northbound SR-15 to I-8/Camino Del Rio South will also be closed. The northbound SR-15 on-ramps at University Avenue, El Cajon Boulevard, and Adams Avenue will be closed as well.

Detour signs will be posted directing motorists traveling north on SR-15 to take northbound I-805, to northbound State Route 163, and then to northbound I-15.

Access from I-805 to Adams Avenue, El Cajon Boulevard and University Avenue will be maintained.

Intermittent lights, noise and dust can be expected during construction, Caltrans says.  Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions.

The $65 million SR-15 Mid-City Centerline Rapid Transit Stations Project will build San Diego’s first freeway-level rapid transit stations along SR-15 at El Cajon Boulevard and University Avenue.

New 2.5-mile transit-only lanes will be constructed within the existing SR-15 median from just north of Interstate 805 to just south of Interstate 8.  The project is expected to be done in 2017.
